Orca Leisure FAQ's
How Much will it cost to run my hot tub?
We wouldn't presume to specify the exact cost of operating your hot tub, as many variables influence it—like usage frequency, surrounding temperature, and electricity rates.
Some companies might advertise a running cost of around £1 per day, but typically, this only covers maintaining the water's heat and excludes start-up costs and using the jets—which is essential for enjoying your hot tub. Hence, this figure can be misleading, as actual costs will likely be higher, depending on how often you use the hot tub.

Is My Hot Tub Insulated?
Orca Leisure offers a variety of hot tubs featuring double, triple, or quadruple insulation, complemented by an insulating lid to enhance thermal retention.
Standard Insulation: These hot tubs include water-resistant polyurethane foam on the acrylic shell to keep the heat in. Additionally, the side panels and base serve as barriers against external elements.
Enhanced Insulation: For greater energy efficiency, this option adds standard insulation of the shell and cabinet, plus a reflective foil layer on the skirting panels and base to further contain the heat.
Triplex Insulation: Building on the enhanced insulation, this premium option adds thick foam within the panel cavities, underneath the reflective foil. This comprehensive approach not only protects against the elements but also maximizes heat retention in the water and base.
Each hot tub’s insulation details are specified in its product description. Generally, the more insulation a hot tub has, the lower its operational costs will be, relative to other models of similar size and usage.
Questions often arise about why the interiors of these hot tubs are not fully filled with foam. Although full foam insulation could minimise heat loss, it would complicate any future repairs. Issues as minor as a leak in a jet or pipe joint could lead to significant maintenance challenges. The design of these hot tubs ensures durability and enjoyment while maintaining ease of access for repairs, preventing the need for complete replacement.
Do I Need Any Accessories or Extras?
Your hot tub already includes an insulating cover, steps and a free filter, so the only essential extra is the chemicals to keep the water hygienic.
We recommend adding the Starter Chemical Pack as they are designed to protect your hot tub and they include easy to use instructions. Alternatively the Advantage Chemical pack is a really cost effective option.
Can I use my hot tub in the winter?
Orca Leisure hot tubs are built for year-round enjoyment, equipped with robust insulation and heaters to maintain warmth even in colder climates. A brisk evening provides an ideal setting to experience the soothing contrast between the cool air and the hot water, reminiscent of traditional Finnish saunas.
Are Orca Leisure Hot Tubs Plug and Play?
No. Orca Leisure provides 13amp hot tubs that can be powered using a standard outdoor RCD plug socket, simplifying electrical setup. An RCD— a safety device that cuts off the electricity supply—is necessary either in the outdoor socket for 13amp tubs or 32amp hot tubs but is not included with the hot tub itself.
You will need to supply a 2.5mm armoured cable, which should be long enough to extend from the socket to the hot tub plus an extra meter, with a plug on one end.
Orca Leisure also offers 32amp hot tubs and 40amp swim spas.
What do I have to do to maintain the hot tub water?
It's essential to check the hot tub water daily using testing strips and adjust the chemical balance by adding small quantities of chemicals. After adding chemicals, run the jets for 5 minutes to mix the water thoroughly, then retest until the strip's color matches the one indicated on the bottle.
To maintain clear and clean water, shower before entering the hot tub to remove any beauty products, lotions, or oils, which can cloud the water. Additionally, avoid using fake tan products before entering the hot tub, as these can stain the shell.
Always use specific hot tub cleaning products; standard detergents and cleaning agents can cause foaming. Similarly, avoid washing swimwear with detergent; instead, rinse it thoroughly before using the hot tub. Read our full guide on hot tub maintenance here.
How often do I need to change the water?
The water needs changing every 3 – 4 months of normal hot tub use, if the water is being appropriately treated with the right chemicals. When you refill your hot tub, ensure you use a non-chlorine shock after the sanitiser, alkalinity and pH are balanced to oxidise the water and keep it clear.
How often do I need to change the filter?
The filter should be cleaned every two weeks with a hosepipe and filter spray. To extend the lifespan on the filter, let it fully dry before using in the hot tub. It’s a good idea to swap between two filters so you can enjoy your hot tub sooner.
