Electrical Supply - IMPORTANT - Please Read Before Ordering

Electrical Installation – Important Information

If you hire our installation team to build your sauna, please note that internal electrical wiring is not included and must be completed by a certified electrician.

Our installation team will:

  • Mount the sauna heater to the wall (where applicable)
  • Attach the LED light strips to the benches

However, the following must be completed by a qualified electrician:

  • Final wiring and connection of the heater
  • Final wiring of the LED lighting
  • Installation and wiring of external control panels, door sensor, thermostat, and any other electrical components (not applicable for manually controlled heaters such as the Harvia Vega BC60).

Electrical Supply Requirements

A sauna heater typically requires a dedicated electrical supply, similar to those used for electric showers or cookers.

Most domestic sauna heaters in the UK operate on a single-phase 230V supply. The current draw can be calculated using the following formula:

Watts ÷ Volts = Amps

Example:

6kW (6000W) ÷ 230V = approximately 26 Amps

Below is a general guide for domestic sauna heaters:

Heater Power - Current Draw - Suggested Cable Size (Single-Phase)

2.3 kW - 10 Amps - 1.5 mm²

3.0 kW - 13 Amps - 2.5 mm²

3.6 kW - 15 Amps - 2.5 mm²

4.5 kW - 19 Amps - 2.5–4.0 mm²

6.0 kW - 26 Amps - 4.0 mm²

8.0 kW - 35 Amps - 6.0 mm²

9.0 kW - 40 Amps - 6.0 mm² (or higher, depending on cable run)
Cable size depends on cable length, installation method, and other on-site factors. Always defer to your electrician’s judgment.

We strongly advise that installation is carried out by a fully qualified electrician, and that all work complies with current Government regulations and wiring standards (e.g., BS 7671 in the UK).

Sauna Heater Manuals

For exact electrical requirements of each heater please refer to the installation manuals below. If you provide these to your electrician, they should be able to advise you of the necessary wiring.

Maintenance

Leil® Celto M 3-4 Person Outdoor Sauna is designed for outdoor use, but it is not maintenance-free. A small amount of regular care will help protect the timber, keep the sauna clean, and prevent avoidable issues over time.

After each use

• Wipe down wet benches, backrests, floors and high-contact areas.

• Leave the door and vents open until the interior has dried properly.

• Do not leave wet towels or accessories inside the sauna.

Cleaning

• Clean periodically with warm water, a soft cloth or brush, and a mild sauna-safe cleaner.

• Avoid harsh household chemicals, bleach, ammonia, abrasive cleaners, or normal interior varnishes.

Benches and backrests

• Sit on towels during use to reduce sweat staining.

• If bench timber becomes dry or marked, it can be lightly cleaned, gently sanded if needed, and treated with a sauna-suitable bench protection product where appropriate.

Doors, hinges and timber movement

• Outdoor timber naturally expands and contracts with heat, humidity and weather.

• Minor door or hinge adjustments may occasionally be required. This is normal routine maintenance rather than a product fault.

Heater stones

• Inspect sauna stones regularly, especially with frequent use.

• Replace stones if they become cracked, crumbly, heavily discoloured, or start breaking down.

• Stack stones loosely enough to allow airflow around the heating elements. Only use proper sauna stones, not garden or beach stones.

Exterior, roof and exposed locations

• Check the exterior, roof, fixings, hinges, vents and drainage periodically, especially after storms or long wet periods.

• Coastal, shaded, very exposed, or high-rainfall locations may need more frequent maintenance.

• In coastal or sea-air locations, exposed metal parts such as hinges, fixings and brackets should be checked more often and given extra corrosion protection where appropriate, such as WD-40 or a suitable zinc-based protective spray.

• In windy or exposed locations, check that any parts vulnerable to wind lift or movement are properly secured. This can include roof shingles, trims, covers and lightweight external fittings. If needed, use additional suitable fixings, adhesive, or restraints in line with the manufacturer’s guidance.

Manuals

• Always follow the specific manual supplied with your sauna and heater. If the manual gives different maintenance instructions, the manufacturer’s manual should take priority.

Leil model-specific care

Follow the supplied Leil manual for model-specific timber treatment, roof care and heater guidance. If treatment or paint is supplied with the sauna, apply it exactly as instructed during installation.

• Inspect exterior timber and exposed finishes at least annually, or more often in coastal, shaded, or very exposed locations.

The design

Solid timber and a wall of glass

There's no frame, cladding or insulation layer to fit: every wall, the floor and the ceiling is a single 60mm cross-laminated timber panel. The whole front is glass, so the inside stays light and open.

  • 60mm CLT panels

Cross-laminated spruce for the walls, floor and ceiling. Stiff, stable and quick to put up.

  • 8mm bronze glass

Tempered bronze glass across the front and in the door, with a premium handle and black hinges.

  • Two-level bench

  • EPDM roof

A flat CLT roof covered with a self-adhesive EPDM rubber membrane.

Choose your heater

Heaters for the Celto M

Every heater in the options above is on Leil's list for the Celto, chosen to suit its 1.9m room height. The UKU control and safety rail show when you pick a heater, with prices as you choose.

Harvia KIP 8kW

A simple heater on Leil's heater stand, with the controls on the heater itself. Nothing else to fit.

HUUM DROP 6 / 9kW

The award-winning DROP on a heater stand, with 60kg of stones for soft steam. Controlled by a HUUM UKU panel: Glass WiFi inside, or Local / WiFi outside under cover.

Harvia Cilindro 9kW

A floor-standing pillar of stones on protective bedding, for strong, even heat. Choose the PC90XW for WiFi control.

HUUM FLOW Mini

A wood-burning stove with chimney set, floor plate and 105kg of stones. No electrics needed.

Heater stand

Why the KIP and DROP sit on a stand

The Celto has glass in both front corners, so there isn't room to hang a heater on the wall. The Harvia KIP and HUUM DROP come on Leil's own heater stand instead, and the stand is included in the heater price above.

  • Fixed to the floor

A black steel frame that screws down through four holes in its base, so it stays put.

  • Made for the DROP and KIP

The DROP bolts straight on. The KIP fits with an adapter plate that comes in the box.

  • Stainless back and drip tray

A stainless cover hides the back of the heater, and a tray at the bottom catches drips.

Leil® Celto M 3-4 Person Outdoor Sauna - FAQ's

When will I receive my order?

The estimated delivery window is currently ….

This is an estimate rather than a guaranteed delivery date. The timing can vary depending on production schedules, dispatch arrangements or other unforeseen delays. If you need the product by a particular date, please call us before placing your order so we can check the current schedule with you.

Should I choose the Celto S or the Celto M?

Both have the same depth (1.40 m) and height (2.10 m). The Celto S is 1.63 m wide and seats two comfortably, three at a squeeze. The Celto M is 2.02 m wide and seats three comfortably, four at most, with a longer 1.86 m bench.

If it will mostly be used by two people, the S is plenty. If you sauna with family or friends, the extra 39 cm of the M is worth it.

Can I build the Celto myself?

Yes. The Celto is only supplied as a flat-pack kit, and Leil says it can be fully assembled in 4–6 hours with the manual included.

Some panels are heavy, so plan for two people. If you would rather not build it, use the Request an Installation Quote link under Add to Cart.

What is CLT and why is the Celto built from it?

CLT (cross-laminated timber) is made from layers of wood glued at right angles, so the panels are stiff and stable. The Celto walls, floor and ceiling are all 60 mm CLT panels.

Because each wall is one solid panel rather than many boards, the kit goes together quickly and stays straight.

Can the Celto be delivered fully assembled?

No. Leil only makes the Celto as a flat-pack kit. It arrives on one pallet of about 0.8 × 2.0 × 1.0 m, weighing around 500 kg, and we unload it for you.

Delivery to mainland England and Wales is included. It is made to order, and we will call to book a date once it is ready.

How should the base for a Celto be laid?

Use a solid, well-drained base that is level from side to side. Leil recommends setting the back slightly lower than the front, so rain runs off the flat roof instead of sitting on it.

Does the outside of the Celto need treating?

Yes. The outside timber arrives untreated, so give it a good-quality, breathable exterior finish to protect it from rain, sun and temperature changes, then check it at least once a year and re-coat as needed.

Leil finishes its own Celtos in black or graphite grey exterior wood stain. Any good exterior stain sold in the UK works, such as Tikkurila Valtti Plus or Osmo UV Protection Oil (see our paint and treatment answer above). Leave the inside walls untreated; a sauna wax or bench protector can be used on the benches.

Which heaters can I choose for the Celto?

All of these are on Leil’s list for both the S and the M. The list is fixed because the sauna room is 1.9 m high, so taller heaters do not fit:

  • Harvia KIP 8 kW with heater stand (controls on the heater)
  • Harvia Cilindro PC90XE 9 kW, or PC90XW with WiFi, on protective bedding (Harvia requires it, and it is included)
  • HUUM DROP 6 or 9 kW with heater stand, controlled by a HUUM UKU panel: UKU Glass WiFi inside the sauna, or UKU Local or UKU WiFi fitted outside somewhere sheltered from rain and snow
  • HUUM FLOW Mini wood-burning stove with chimney set

The electric heaters need a qualified electrician to connect them.

What lighting is available for the Celto?

You can add a dimmable LED strip under the backrest. The set includes the LED strip, cable, transformer, dimmer switch and installation box.

Does this sauna include a heater?

No. The price shown is for the sauna without a heater. Choose your heater in "Design your sauna" on this page; the price updates as you choose.

Final wiring must be completed by a qualified electrician; electrical connection is not included with sauna assembly.

Does installation include the electrical connection?

No. Our installation team can assemble the sauna, but the heater and any other electrical components must still be connected by a qualified electrician.

You will need a suitable electrical supply and, at minimum, an isolator switch. Full details are provided in the Electrical Supply section on the product page.

Can any qualified electrician connect the sauna, and do you provide guidance?

Yes. Any qualified electrician should be able to connect the sauna, provided they follow the electrical requirements listed in the Electrical Supply section of the product page.

After you place your order, we also send further information that you can pass on to your electrician.

Can you recommend an electrician for the final connection?

In some cases, we may be able to share details of electricians who have connected saunas for previous customers.

Availability will depend on your location, and you are also welcome to use your own qualified electrician.

How long does professional assembly take?

Assembly time depends on the model, access and site conditions. Many outdoor saunas can be assembled in around one day, while larger or more complex models may take longer.

Use the Request an Installation Quote link under Add to Cart and complete the form. We will confirm the expected installation time with your quote.

Is the Heracles installation team experienced with this model?

Yes. Our installation team uses specialist carpenters and installers who are experienced in assembling outdoor saunas, which is one of the reasons many customers prefer professional installation.

What sort of base does the sauna need?

Outdoor saunas should be installed on a solid, level, well-drained base that is suitable for the size and weight of the model you are buying.

Suitable options can include a concrete pad, paving, tiles, or structurally suitable decking, provided the surface is flat, stable, and able to support the load without movement.

We also recommend positioning the base far enough away from walls, fences, and other obstructions to allow access for future wood treatment and maintenance, and to ensure the fuse box can still be accessed when needed.

Do you carry out site visits before installation?

No. We do not carry out site visits.

To request an installation quote, use the Request an Installation Quote link under Add to Cart and complete the form with photos, measurements, site plans, access details and the proposed sauna location. Our installation team will use that information to assess access, base preparation and positioning, and flag any obvious issues before installation.

Why has my sauna door gone out of alignment over time?

In outdoor saunas, it is normal for the timber structure to respond to changes in temperature, humidity, and ambient conditions over time. This can occasionally cause minor movement in the door opening, which may affect how the door closes or sits within the frame.

For this reason, sauna door hinges are designed to be adjustable. Minor door or hinge alignment adjustments over time are normal and should be carried out in line with the manual as part of routine ownership maintenance, rather than being treated as a product fault.

Can I see one of your saunas in person before ordering?

We do not currently have a full showroom, but many of our existing customers are happy to show their sauna to prospective buyers.

If you would like to see one in person, please contact us and we can try to arrange a viewing with a customer in or near your area.

Do outdoor saunas need regular maintenance?

Yes. Outdoor saunas are not maintenance-free.

As a minimum, owners should expect to inspect and re-treat exposed timber at least every 12 months, or sooner if the manufacturer manual and local conditions require it.

You should also expect to make minor door or hinge adjustments over time in line with the manual, as timber structures naturally move slightly with changes in temperature and humidity.

In coastal or sea-air environments, exposed metal parts should be checked more regularly and protected with a rust-proof treatment such as WD-40 or another suitable anti-corrosion product.

Sauna heaters also require maintenance in line with the manufacturer manual. This normally includes periodically checking, washing, and restacking the stones, and in the longer term electric heater elements may need replacing if they wear out.

We do not currently offer a formal maintenance programme.

What paint or treatment should I use on my outdoor sauna?

If your sauna has exposed or untreated exterior timber, use a breathable, UV-resistant and water-resistant exterior wood treatment. We recommend Tikkurila Valtti Plus Kesto or Tikkurila Valtti Plus Color. If you prefer a clear, natural finish, Osmo UV Protection Oil is a good option.

Apply the treatment after assembly and before regular use, then inspect the timber annually and re-treat it as required for the product and your site’s exposure.

For sauna-room walls, window frames and door frames, use Tikkurila Supi Sauna Finish or Tikkurila Supi Sauna Wax. For benches and backrests, use Tikkurila Supi Laudesuoja Bench Protection. Never use ordinary exterior paint, varnish or household wood treatments inside the heated sauna room.

If your sauna has factory-finished or specialist cladding, follow the supplied manual and do not overcoat it unless the manufacturer confirms the product is suitable.

These recommendations are general guidance. Check both the sauna manufacturer’s manual and the treatment manufacturer’s instructions, and satisfy yourself that the product is suitable for the timber and any existing finish before applying it. If you are unsure about a colour, request samples from the manufacturer or retailer and test one on a spare timber offcut or a small, inconspicuous area first.

Can this sauna be used commercially?

Yes. Our traditional saunas are suitable for commercial use, and we already supply many commercial customers.

Commercial use requires a regular maintenance regime, as it would with any sauna. This includes cleaning the sauna, inspecting and maintaining the heater stones, and re-treating or painting the timber when required. The frequency will depend on usage, location and the manufacturer's maintenance instructions.
