Electrical Installation – Important Information

If you hire our installation team to build your sauna, please note that internal electrical wiring is not included and must be completed by a certified electrician.

Our installation team will:

  • Mount the sauna heater to the wall (where applicable)
  • Attach the LED light strips to the benches

However, the following must be completed by a qualified electrician:

  • Final wiring and connection of the heater
  • Final wiring of the LED lighting
  • Installation and wiring of external control panels, door sensor, thermostat, and any other electrical components (not applicable for manually controlled heaters such as the Harvia Vega BC60).

Electrical Supply Requirements

A sauna heater typically requires a dedicated electrical supply, similar to those used for electric showers or cookers.

Most domestic sauna heaters in the UK operate on a single-phase 230V supply. The current draw can be calculated using the following formula:

Watts ÷ Volts = Amps

Example:

6kW (6000W) ÷ 230V = approximately 26 Amps

Below is a general guide for domestic sauna heaters:

Cable size depends on cable length, installation method, and other on-site factors. Always defer to your electrician’s judgment.

We strongly advise that installation is carried out by a fully qualified electrician, and that all work complies with current Government regulations and wiring standards (e.g., BS 7671 in the UK).

Delivery & Installation

Delivery pricing and regions

Delivery is included in the product price for eligible sauna orders to mainland England and Wales, excluding the Isle of Wight and Isles of Scilly.

Mainland Scotland delivery supplements of £399 or £749 including VAT apply by postcode and are shown at checkout.

Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Scottish islands, BFPO, Europe and every other international or offshore destination require an individual quotation before ordering.

Eligible Scottish customers can select free collection from our private Widnes warehouse. Collection is by appointment and may be made personally or by a nominated carrier.

Sauna Air saunas are delivered fully assembled.

To protect the sauna’s base frame, it is recommended to install the sauna above ground level. Place a water-resistant material, such as bitumen strips, between the base frame and the surface to prevent direct contact with the ground.

Assembled Deliveries

however, unloading the sauna is not included in the price as this can vary significantly depending on the location you would like to place the sauna, and the access to it from the road.

Assembled saunas cannot be offloaded by hand. Depending on access, you have three options: forklift, HIAB, or crane.

• Forklift: If there is enough space to move the sauna from the truck to its final position, a forklift is the most cost-effective option.

• HIAB: For lifting the sauna over a fence or wall near the road, a HIAB is a practical and affordable choice.

• Crane: If your sauna’s final position is far from the road and lacks forklift access, a crane will be necessary.

If you’re unsure of the best solution, feel free to contact us for advice or assistance in finding the right option.

Warranty

Sauna Air saunas come with a 2-year manufacturer's warranty from the date you buy it (1 year if the sauna is used commercially, for example in a public sauna or spa).

It covers manufacturing defects. It does not cover damage caused by improper installation, misuse, transport or storage after delivery, normal wear and tear (such as minor timber movement or colour change), poor maintenance or extreme weather.

If you find a fault, tell us in writing within 14 days of discovering it, with a description and clear photos, so we can pass it to Sauna Air straight away. Repairs are carried out by Sauna Air or an authorised partner unless agreed otherwise in writing.

Return and Refunds

Made to order. This product is built to your specification, so we cannot accept returns or cancellations for a change of mind once production has started. Your legal rights are not affected: if it is faulty, damaged or not as described, we will repair, replace or refund it, and it is covered by its warranty. Maintenance

Sauna Air Nordic Elegance Grande 5 Person Sauna with Changing Room is designed for outdoor use, but it is not maintenance-free. A small amount of regular care will help protect the timber, keep the sauna clean, and prevent avoidable issues over time.

After each use

• Wipe down wet benches, backrests, floors and high-contact areas.

• Leave the door and vents open until the interior has dried properly.

• Do not leave wet towels or accessories inside the sauna.

Cleaning

• Clean periodically with warm water, a soft cloth or brush, and a mild sauna-safe cleaner.

• Avoid harsh household chemicals, bleach, ammonia, abrasive cleaners, or normal interior varnishes.

Benches and backrests

• Sit on towels during use to reduce sweat staining.

• If bench timber becomes dry or marked, it can be lightly cleaned, gently sanded if needed, and treated with a sauna-suitable bench protection product where appropriate.

Doors, hinges and timber movement

• Outdoor timber naturally expands and contracts with heat, humidity and weather.

• Minor door or hinge adjustments may occasionally be required. This is normal routine maintenance rather than a product fault.

Heater stones

• Inspect sauna stones regularly, especially with frequent use.

• Replace stones if they become cracked, crumbly, heavily discoloured, or start breaking down.

• Stack stones loosely enough to allow airflow around the heating elements. Only use proper sauna stones, not garden or beach stones.

Exterior, roof and exposed locations

• Check the exterior, roof, fixings, hinges, vents and drainage periodically, especially after storms or long wet periods.

• Coastal, shaded, very exposed, or high-rainfall locations may need more frequent maintenance.

• In coastal or sea-air locations, exposed metal parts such as hinges, fixings and brackets should be checked more often and given extra corrosion protection where appropriate, such as WD-40 or a suitable zinc-based protective spray.

• In windy or exposed locations, check that any parts vulnerable to wind lift or movement are properly secured. This can include roof shingles, trims, covers and lightweight external fittings. If needed, use additional suitable fixings, adhesive, or restraints in line with the manufacturer’s guidance.

Manuals

• Always follow the specific manual supplied with your sauna and heater. If the manual gives different maintenance instructions, the manufacturer’s manual should take priority.

Sauna Air model-specific care

For Sauna Air saunas, follow the supplied manufacturer manual for exact timber treatment, cleaning, heater and roof-care requirements.

• If the sauna has factory-finished or specialised cladding, do not apply ordinary paint, varnish, or household wood products unless the manufacturer confirms they are suitable.

How it's built

Built like a small house

Sauna Air builds every house by hand in Tallinn from thermally modified timber, fully insulated in the walls, roof and floor, so it heats quickly and keeps its heat through a British winter.

  • Insulated, CE certified

    Rockwool insulation, a vapour barrier and a windproof membrane, built to the same standard as a Class B building (roof U ≈ 0.26, walls U ≈ 0.48).

  • Thermowood outside

    Thermory Benchmark thermo pine cladding, finished in StoColor Dryonic facade paint in black, grey or white. Thermowood absorbs far less moisture than untreated timber and stays straight.

  • Arrives ready to use

    Built and finished in the factory, with a drain in the floor and a rodent mesh underneath. It stands on its own support legs, so it needs no full foundation.

  • A separate changing room

    Its own room with a glazed front and an interior door into the sauna, so you can change and cool down without going outside. Two more LED lights light the changing room.

A two-zone interior with EmotionWood panels and Yakisugi (charred wood) details, Thermo Aspen benches and a removable floor grate. A dimmable RGB LED back wall and LED strips behind the backrest and under the upper bench are all controlled from a remote.

Heating

Five kinds of sauna from one heater

The Saunum Experience 9 kW heater (sold as the Primary in some markets) comes with a Saunum Leil control unit and 90 kg of stones. Its built-in climate device draws the hot air from the ceiling, mixes it with cooler air from the floor and spreads it evenly, so you don't get a hot head and cold feet.

  • Soft, even heat

    Traditional Finnish, soft humid, steam-rich, salt and aroma sessions. Himalayan salt balls sit in the airflow.

  • Other heaters

    Prefer something different? Choose the Narvi Velvet 9 kW electric, the Narvi Velvet 20 wood-burning stove or the Saunum Spa Session 9 kW in “Design your sauna” above.

  • Electrics

    The heater needs its own supply from your consumer unit. Your electrician connects it; we don't quote for electrics, as every house is different.

Arrives in one piece

The sauna comes fully built and weighs about 2,600 kg, so it is lifted into place by crane or forklift. We can arrange this at extra cost depending on your access; send us photos of the route and the spot.

Simple base

No full foundation is needed: a firm, level base of compacted gravel or slabs under the support legs is enough. Ask us for the foundation plan.

Electrics

Your electrician connects the heater and lighting to a dedicated supply. We don't quote for electrics, as every house is different.

Lead time

What heater does it come with?

Every Nordic Elegance sauna comes with the Saunum Experience 9kW electric heater (sold as the Primary in some markets), a Saunum Leil control unit and 90 kg of stones. Its built-in air circulation mixes hot air from the ceiling with cooler air from the floor for soft, even heat, and Himalayan salt balls sit in the airflow.

Does it need assembling?

No. It arrives fully built and finished, so there is no assembly on site. Because it arrives in one piece it is lifted into place by crane, HIAB or forklift. Can I use a Sauna Air sauna all year round?

Yes. The walls, roof and floor are insulated with Rockwool behind a vapour barrier and windproof membrane, the glass is double glazed and the cladding is thermally modified pine. Sauna Air builds them to the same standard as a Class B building, so they hold their heat in winter.

Can I choose the exterior colour?

Yes. Black, grey or white StoColor Dryonic facade paint is standard, and Sauna Air can paint it in a custom colour for an extra charge. The glass can also be ultra clear, bronze or mirror instead of the standard grey and clear.

How many people does the Grande seat?

Four comfortably and up to five in the sauna room, with a separate changing room next door.

What lighting is included?

A dimmable RGB LED back wall, two LED strips behind the backrest and one under the upper bench, all controlled from a remote. The Medium and Grande add outdoor spotlights and terrace mood lighting, and the Grande has two more lights in the changing room.

What size is the Nordic Elegance Grande?

4490 mm wide, 2330 mm deep and 2600 mm high, including the roof. It weighs about 2,600 kg.

What paint or treatment should I use on my outdoor sauna?

If your sauna has exposed or untreated exterior timber, use a breathable, UV-resistant and water-resistant exterior wood treatment. We recommend Tikkurila Valtti Plus Kesto or Tikkurila Valtti Plus Color. If you prefer a clear, natural finish, Osmo UV Protection Oil is a good option.

Apply the treatment after assembly and before regular use, then inspect the timber annually and re-treat it as required for the product and your site’s exposure.

For sauna-room walls, window frames and door frames, use Tikkurila Supi Sauna Finish or Tikkurila Supi Sauna Wax. For benches and backrests, use Tikkurila Supi Laudesuoja Bench Protection. Never use ordinary exterior paint, varnish or household wood treatments inside the heated sauna room.

If your sauna has factory-finished or specialist cladding, follow the supplied manual and do not overcoat it unless the manufacturer confirms the product is suitable.

These recommendations are general guidance. Check both the sauna manufacturer’s manual and the treatment manufacturer’s instructions, and satisfy yourself that the product is suitable for the timber and any existing finish before applying it. If you are unsure about a colour, request samples from the manufacturer or retailer and test one on a spare timber offcut or a small, inconspicuous area first.

Can this sauna be used commercially?

Yes. Our traditional saunas are suitable for commercial use, and we already supply many commercial customers.

Commercial use requires a regular maintenance regime, as it would with any sauna. This includes cleaning the sauna, inspecting and maintaining the heater stones, and re-treating or painting the timber when required. The frequency will depend on usage, location and the manufacturer's maintenance instructions.
